Crop Hail (CH) insurance is a private product that provides protection against unavoidable loss to a crop caused by hail, fire, or lighting. During transport to the first place of storage, Crop Hail coverage also includes collision, overturn, and collapse of bridges, docks, and culverts. Revenue Protection policies insure producers against yield losses due to natural causes such as drought, excessive moisture, hail, wind, frost, insects, and disease, and revenue losses caused by a change in the harvest price from the projected price. Crop Hail can be used along with Multi-Peril Insurance to offset the MPCI deductible and provide protection up to the actual cash value of the crop. Coverage is provided on an acre-by-acre basis, so damage that occurs on only part of the farm may be eligible for payment even when the rest of the farm is unaffected.
